Have a great day.

Re: Neuro-Philosophy

Hi Shea

Thanks for the response. I am currently reading the Churchlands text and it's absolutely fascinating.

I'm glad  there is no ghost in the maching. That's exactly what I'm hoping they will be able to deliver beyond the shaddow of a doubt.

I think it may have interesting implications for feminism re proving the point that men have no legitimate rational for having treated women through out history and lets face if, for some, well and truly into the present age, as inferior.

If there's no ghost in the machine, no deity on high, then essentially what's been offered up as semi fact and an excuse for the subjagation of women (via religion) is indeed nothing more than a false mandate.

Ok. off the soap box now.

Mind you I'm only up to chapter two so far and I may be well and truly making enormous assumptions about where neuro-philosophy can go, but it looks hopeful for now.

Once again thank you very much for the response.

Re: Neuro-Philosophy

Hi SHea

Once again thank you for your insightful and informative response.

I'm not all that convinced that in this case the cause of consiousness needs to be clarified in order to dismiss the age old patriarchal rational that religion applies to the treatment of women.

Perhaps, small though they may be, the few tangible steps that the Churchlands are able to make toward dismissing the idea of the spirit, can be applied successfully.

Besides it's not consciousness that is used by religion to promote the subjagation of women rather it's the notion of the soul and it's connection with a male deity which dictates the supposed gender roles.

The whole mind/body distinction seems to be nothing more than a straw dog that unfortunately  keeps barking loudly and gaurding the bastion of suppposed male superiority.

Nothing hard wired about feminism, in fact, I would argue, and religion and history would also seem to indicate that, if anything, it's men's desires to dominate and control women that's more likely to be considered innate, however that too is a cop out, as nothing is so much as innate but learned.
